PINEWOOD is a small town in the state of Texas with a population of less than 1,000. Nestled near the northeastern corner of the great Lone Star state, Pinewood sees many visitors from the neighboring states of Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Mississippi year round.
As a border town, tourism makes up the bulk of the modern Pinewood economy, but the town was originally founded in the late 1800's as a mining development.
Over the years, the mines would shutter, and Pinewood would move into manufacturing for a period of time. Unfortunately, the factories would eventually also close, leaving the residents of Pinewood scrambling to find ways to make ends meet. While many moved on to bigger cities, others decided to stick it out and do whatever it took to keep Pinewood on the map.
Don't be fooled by the town's name, however: Pinewood is all desert valley. Located to the east is Ranger's Bluff which sits atop Cedar Creek. The creek flows into the Blue Ridge River which ends at Lake Rayburn.
Just 10 minutes southeast of Pinewood, Lake Rayburn is a popular destination for locals and tourists alike and features Camp Rayburn. If you're looking for the nearest large city, just head 16 minutes north of Pinewood on US-59 to Texarkana, home of Texas A&M University-Texarkana.
